Basketball Recruiting Email Examples (Intro, Follow-Up, Uncommitted Senior)

    RECRUITED Team
    September 14, 20264 min read

Basketball coaches get more unsolicited recruiting mail than almost any sport — and delete most of it unread. The emails that survive share a structure: verifiable numbers up top, film one click away, and a schedule the coach can act on. Here are working examples for each situation.

A basketball recruiting email is judged in ten seconds on four things: class year, position/size, level of competition, and whether your film link works.

    Example 1: The Introduction Email

    Subject: 2027 PG | 6'1" | [AAU Team] 17U | 3.6 GPA | Film

    Coach [Last Name],

My name is [Name], a 2027 point guard (6'1", 175) at [High School],
playing 17U for [AAU Program] on the [circuit name] circuit. I'm
very interested in [University] — [one specific true reason].

    Key info:
    • 2026 HS season: 14.2 ppg, 6.1 apg, 2.3 spg ([League], [Class])
    • AAU: [Team] 17U — [notable result or circuit]
    • Academics: 3.6 GPA, [SAT/ACT if taken]
    • Film: [link — 4 min, game clips with score/context visible]

    Upcoming schedule:
    • [AAU tournament], [City], [Dates]
    • [HS game vs. rival], [Date]

I'd welcome feedback on my game and would love to learn about your
2027 class. Thank you for your time.

    [Name] | [Phone] | [Email]
    [Coach contact: HS — Name/Phone; AAU — Name/Phone]

    🎯 Key Point:

Stats without context are noise. "14.2 ppg" means nothing until you name the league and classification — coaches instantly calibrate numbers to competition level, so give them the level.

    Example 2: The Post-Game / Tournament Follow-Up

Subject: Re: 2027 PG [Name] — 22 pts at [Tournament] this weekend

    Coach [Last Name],

Following up on my note from [date] — we went 3-1 at [Tournament]
this weekend. I had 22 points and 7 assists in the semifinal vs.
[opponent]. Updated film from the weekend: [link]

We're at [next event] on [dates] if your staff will be attending.

    Thank you,
    [Name], 2027 PG, [AAU Team]

    💡 Pro Tip:

Reply in the same email thread rather than starting a new one. Coaches half-remember names; the thread gives them your whole file in one scroll. More patterns in our follow-up guide.

Example 3: The Uncommitted Senior Email

Subject: Uncommitted 2026 SG | 6'4" | Available for visits

    Coach [Last Name],

I'm [Name], an uncommitted 2026 shooting guard (6'4", 190) at
[High School] — 17.8 ppg on 41% from three this season in [League].
I know rosters evolve late, and I wanted to make sure I'm on your
radar if you're still adding to your 2026 class.

Film: [link] | Transcript and test scores available on request.
I can visit on short notice.

    [Name] | [Phone] | [Email]

What NOT to Put in a Basketball Email

    • Mixtape-style film with music intros and no game context — coaches want game film with the score visible
    • Rankings from pay-to-play services — competition level and film outrank any ranking
    • Comparisons to NBA players — let coaches draw their own comps
    • Five paragraphs — if it doesn't fit on one phone screen, it's too long
    ⚠️ Important:

Basketball staffs recruit by position need and class. A "no interest" from a program stacked at guard says nothing about your ability — it's roster math. Target programs graduating your position; roster pages tell you.

    📊 Did You Know?

Most college basketball opportunities are outside D1 — D2, D3, NAIA, and JUCO programs recruit later, respond faster to direct email, and produce the majority of college players.
